Instructions

If you are applying for a summer staff position, you will need to complete the entire application form. Be prepared to set aside up to one hour to fill out this application! There are five to eight essay questions (details below) that you will need to compose ahead of time in addition to filling out the rest of the application. Also, be prepared to provide three references and their contact information:

  1. A pastor or a youth leader
  2. An employer, current or former, or a teacher
  3. A personal reference who is a Christian adult, and not a family member

Summer Staff Applicant Requirements

  1. A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and an active involvement in a local evangelical church.
  2. A desire to be a team member in a ministry dedicated to drawing young people as well as adults to faith, commitment and service to Jesus Christ.
  3. A servant's heart reflected in a willing attitude.
  4. Good health in order to meet the strenuous demands of a camping ministry.
  5. Must be at least 18 years old (or be entering your senior year of high school AND completed the APOSTLE program).
  6. Successful applicants must be willing to complete the entire summer commitment. 2008 Staff orientation begins on Monday, June 16; all staff members are required to work through Tuesday, August 19. Strong consideration is given to the applicants who can work throughout these dates. If your school or work schedule causes a conflict with these dates, please make sure to note this on the cover of your application.

Interviews

All applicants are required to have a personal interview with a Camp Hammer director. Summer applicants should request the interview schedule and sign up for an interview at the location nearest them. Theses interviews are conducted during February and March. All others should contact Camp Hammer to get interview information.

Salary

Successful hires for summer staff positions will be paid on a weekly basis, plus room and board. Withholding tax will be deducted from the weekly salary.

Essay Questions

Summer staff applicants are asked to complete between five and eight essay questions. Your answers will help us in understanding your abilities and character. We strongly recommend you read over these questions and compose clear, concise answers before beginning the online application process. You should read and print these essay questions ahead of time, compose them in a separate word processing program, and then cut and paste your answers into the online application when you are ready to fill it out.

Employment Policy

Camp Hammer employs over 10 full-time employees. Throughout the year, the Camp Hammer staff assists in meeting the needs of over 4,000 guests. During the summer, the staff grows to over 40 people, all of whom have the desire to serve Jesus Christ in the unique ministry of Christian camping. The staff is chosen from a variety of geographical areas, regardless of ethnicity, color, sex, age, national origin, disability, or veteran status. Camp Hammer is an evangelical, nonprofit, interdenominational camping ministry. Early applicants will receive first consideration.
